WATCH: We Asked Chinese Smokers What They Think of Vaping

Last month, we set out to explore China’s tobacco epidemic – and the effects of cigarette bans that have begun being implemented nationwide. Home to 320 million smokers – a little less than the entire US population – tobacco is big business in China (like really, really big business), generating more in tax revenue every year than the nation spends annually on the military.

The more we dug into the topic, however, the more we came to believe another angle needed highlighting: the rise of ‘vaping’ in the People’s Republic.

This relatively new industry stands to offer smokers a safer alternative to cigarettes, and maybe even change the long-term trajectory of tobacco use on the mainland.

As part of our investigation, we chatted with a number of Chinese smokers in Guangzhou’s Haizhu District to find out what they think of vaporizers and e-cigarettes.
