Mao
Livehouse hosts two Japanese rock bands in the form of fiercely DIY
indie rockers Mitsume, and DYGL, who formed in 2012 when its members
were in college, and released their pop-rock debut full-length, Say Goodbye to Memory Den, last year.

Aug 11: Evil Befall
Inferno’s latest metal show is Evil Befall, bringing together sub-genres like nu metal, thrash metal, industrial metal, post-hardcore, metal core and more from local bands On The Verge Of Extermination, Second Son, The Baraka and Blackness. Cover price includes a drink.

Aug 11: Sharp Edges
Sharp Edges is a free night of local Shanghai music at Harley’s Underground, featuring an elcectic group of bands: Moaning Lisa, Boogie Daddy, and Star Maiden Apocalypse.

Aug 12: Shanghai Calling
Shanghai Calling brings together bands from Shanghai and Beijing to celebrate both local music scenes (and their ongoing rivalry). Shanghai represents in the form of post-punk girl group Dream Can and instrumental rockers 21 Grams, while Beijing’s featured bands are psych-rock groups Macon and The Harridans.

Aug 13: Watermelone
This free Sunday festival at Yuyintang showcases up-and-coming local
bands like Lush!, Fei Band, Siena Wu, Damn the Neutrino and
Schrödinger's Fish. Profits from the night go to charitable organization
ZhanYi, which works with impoverished children around China.
