Aug 3: Ogg Vorbis
DJs
Swimful, RJ the Alien and Y.too.K bring a banging mix of grime, drum ’n
bass, experimental hip-hop, dancehall and lots more in this new party
at Elevator. Solid choice for a Thursday night out.

Aug 3-5: Summer Jam (with Grandmaster Flash)
Le Baron hosts their very first music festival in the form of three
consecutive party nights . On Thursday, Australian twin producer duo
Cosmo's Midnight plays their brand of R&B-tinged electronic music.
Friday brings the main event: a set by hip-hop legend Grandmaster Flash.
Love Bang will close out the festival on Saturday night. There is no
cover, but it will be hard to get in without guestlist or a table,
especially on Friday.

Aug 4: A Guy Called Gerald [POSTPONED]
[THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED. The planned installation from the Texture Group will still be happening, with local DJs playing acid house sets. The cover for Elevator tonight is now free before midnight, then RMB50. Called Gerald, an essential member of the acid house scene of 80s
Manchester thanks to tracks like 'Voodoo Ray.' Also known an early
innovator in jungle and drum 'n bass, he has released nine albums over
his multiple-decade career.

Aug 4: Tokimonsta
Talented
and multifaceted LA producer TOKiMONSTA comes to Arkham with SHFT as
part of the tour for her new album, Lune Rouge, a soulful, poppy new
avenue for her electronic music. TOKiMONSTA composed the album while
undergoing brain surgery, and describes it as more personal than her
previous work.

Aug 4: Empire Soft Opening
Empire is a new restaurant, bar and music venue on the Bund. Its food, vibe and music policy are meant to evoke the multicultural identity of NYC. Shanghai screen printers IdleBeats are behind the decor, and the music comes courtesy of Reggie Ba-Pe III, formerly of STD. Head to their soft-opening for a sampling of the food menu and beats by ADO8, Amber Akilla and Lon.

Aug 4: Kyoka + Ueno Masaaki
Antidote
teams up with respected German techno label Raster-notion for this
showcase of two Japanese live electronic acts. Kyoka splits her time
between Tokyo and Berlin and deals in broken beats and experimental
rhythms. Ueno Masaaki takes philosophical inspiration from weather and
biology in his releases on Raster-notion, and he’s also the found of art
collective »p±h«.

Aug 4: Dark City
Celia continues to hold court as Shanghai’s prime after-hours spot with their Dark City party. Kicking off at midnight, the night features techno from resident DJs Jasmine Li, Javi Kalero and Emil Chang. Goes until well into the next morning.

Aug 5: Elysia Crampton + Bok Bok
Experimental producer Elysia Crampton brings her electrifying live show,
a mix of visuals and her complex, thematically rich electronic
compositions that touch on progressive issues, feminism and Latinx
culture, to Shanghai for the first Wooozy Offline Show at ALL. Joining
her will be UK grime producer and Night Slugs label boss Bok Bok. Check out our interview with Crampton here.

Aug 5: Lil Akin & Visudy
STD
hosts this show from two up-and-coming Chinese electronic acts: soulful
vocalist Lil Akin and producer of mellow, futuristic beats, Visudy. The
two have collaborated on tracks like 'Seaside Motel' and will be
performing their blend of R&B and electronic music at Arkham.

Aug 5: Phase Fatale
Club promoters Say Yes continue their two-year anniversary celebrations by bringing over Phase Fatale, a Berlin-based producer of dark and industrial techno with elements of post-punk and cold wave. Catch his set at Elevator.
