Shanghai-based womenswear brand Arete’s ‘Windswept’ themed Spring/Summer 2017 collection is inspired by Chinese American artist Tracie Cheng’s ethereal landscape paintings.
For its official launch, Arete and Cheng have prepared a multimedia exhibition at M50’s Pata Gallery that features the artist’s latest artwork, Arete’s fashion-art designs and installations, as well as a fashion film named after the collection’s theme.
For her latest creations, Arete’s head designer Christina Liao draws parallels between the softness, fluidity and structured lines in Cheng’s paintings and her own label’s focus on the balance of strength and femininity.
Through layering and the use of different textures and fabrics, Liao’s ‘Windswept’- themed collection signifies escape from winter and restrictions while embracing the warmer season to come.
