Passengers travelling to the capital this week will be receiving more than just the magical hand wave from security officers when passing through the terminal gates at the city’s major railway stations. Stricter security measures are being imposed due to the Belt and Road Forum taking place in Beijing on Sunday and Monday.

In addition to the standard baggage scanners and metal detectors, passengers are required to have their luggage rechecked in a waiting room before boarding trains. This procedure will continue until the end of the forum, the police told Shanghai Daily.
About 40 officers are on luggage double-check duty at Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station where the extra measures have been implemented since Saturday. They have reported to discover banned objects such as kitchen knives, toy guns and pets.
However, there were no mentions as to how these objects passed the initial baggage scanners.
