A That's series where we ask a Shanghai-based somebody to tell us 5 Things specific to his or her life.
Ahead of this weekend’s FEAST Festival we speak with the co-founder of Social Supply and owner of EGG Camden Hauge, who is heading up the event. She tells us what to expect, as well as her foodie favorites and guilty pleasures in Shanghai.
1. FEAST was the culmination of a dream I’ve had since moving here from London.
The market scene there is super strong and they celebrate their local heroes and products in a lovely way. Being able to work with my favorite people in town and push them forward as "food personalities" to try and raise the perceived level of Shanghai's F&B is such a pleasure and honor.
2. We’ve learned from the past two iterations.
The core, celebrating Shanghai's best in food and drink, remains the same, but we are introducing even more programming this time: an Iron Chef-style public cooking battle, fun internal awards (for silly things like 'best decorated booth' and 'most publicly intoxicated'), and more performances, like live jazz + swing dancing!
As far as the food goes, the photos that people have been sending are solid #foodporn, but my lips are sealed!
3. We actually noticed a saturation in food-specific events last year...
So we're trying to branch into other 'media' that we feel are underrepresented in town. Last month, we started Cocktail Cinema, an immersive film screening paired with cocktails and this month we kick off our LIVEROOM live music sessions.
4. I think my favorite place to eat in the city is Er Guang.
Sesame hundun (wontons), lukewarm beer and a tiny plastic stool on the street watching the old folk. Happy.
5. Guilty pleasure confession: I drink far too much coffee and sneak the butt we slice off of the banana bread at EGG.
My new favorite at the cafe however, is the truffled mushroom toast, inspired by one of our r-EGG-ulars. Our customers keep us thriving and it’s super cool when we can learn from them on how to improve. Plus, truffle.
