Shanghai's Foreign 'Metro Diners' Apologize

Remember those foreigners we wrote about who decided to wine and dine on Metro Line 11, which in turn outraged Netizens?

Well, they've packed up their picnic and have since issued a formal apology letter for their 'wrong doing'.

The Metro operator and police officers met yesterday with four of the six (two were on a business trip) to reprimand them for their behavior. While eating and drinking is not illegal in Shanghai (although discouraged), the act of setting up a table could be dangerous in blocking commuters or injuring others, resulting in a whopping RMB50 fine, according to Metro officials.

Lucky enough for the lunchers, their table was in fact smaller than it appeared on surveillance footage and the carriage was not too busy, so they were let go with just a warning rather than getting sacked.
