In regards to air pollution, we've seen it all. From smog police to an artist turning the bad air into sparkly rings.
But good news comes to those who wait... until 2030 to be exact.
By then, Shanghai aims to have 4 out of 5 excellent air quality days thanks to a new 'environmental protection system' soon to be put in place.
Yesterday, the Shanghai Health 2030 plan was introduced by the Shanghai Health and Family Planning Commission. Not only will it tackle pollution, but the new regulations will also enforce cleaning up dirty waterways, help decrease patients medical expenses and grow medical support and promote a healthier lifestyle with additional exercise programs and green space.
It's estimated the city will have 1.2 million residents taking part in 'neighborhood chronic disease management teams' and hoping to have 46-percent of the population exercising regularly and 96.5-percent achieving physical health standards - a huge movement considering the increase of fat camps to target the growing obesity epidemic.
Fortunately, we won't have to wait for years to see these changes, considering even just the recent smoking bans that were just put into place.
