“Singapore’s king of swing,” pianist-vocalist Monteiro has performed on
prestigious stages like the Royal Albert Hall. He teams up with Hong
Kong’s premier jazz guitarist Pao, who has shared stages with legends
like Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock and Freddie Hubbard.

The
Beijing pop-punk group have carved out a loyal following due to their
energetic live shows. Expect their MAO Livehouse show to be even more
celebratory as they tour the country for their 20th anniversary.

Mar 17: Alpine Decline
The
Beijing-by-way-of-Los Angeles psych-rock duo toured the nation last
year with P.K. 14 frontman Yang Haisong on bass. They return to Shanghai
for an intimate show at Harley’s with support from Maybe Mars

Mar 18: The Eastern Black Cult
Inferno has lined up a killer double bill for this black metal night. For 16 years, Black Invocation has terrified the nation with their extreme sound that explores themes of war and destruction. Joining them is homegrown symphonic death metal band Crusado Orchestra, which pairs together extreme metal with a touch of classical.

Sisters Mayumi and Hiromi Hasegawa bring their post-rock band to MAO Livehouse to celebrate their latest EP, drops.

For over 20, the Xinjiang group has amassed a national following with their alternative rock. Now signed to Modern Sky, they bring their national tour to support their new disc, Machine Saves All Mankind, to MAO Livehouse.

Mar 19-21 & 25: Mike Watt
The
esteemed bassist is beloved for broadening the sound of hardcore as a
member of The Minutemen. His solo debut famously featured numerous
guests including members of Pearl Jam, Nirvana, The Beastie Boys and
much more. Watt has since gone on to be a member of the reformed The
Stooges, while continuing to be an indie icon for his work with younger
acts including Japanese buzz band, Lite.

Mar 21-22: Cuong Vu Trio
Praised
by Pat Metheny as “one of the best bands I’ve ever heard,” the trio has
been lauded as one of the leaders of postmillennial jazz. The
Saigon-born trumpeter Cuong Vu has been praised by the New York Times for his “dreamlike sound informed by post-bop but just as rooted in noise pop, grunge and ambient minimalism.”
