Get ready to breathe deeply, people of Shanghai. The city’s Greenery and Public Sanitation Bureau recently announced plans to build 1200 hectares of new green space this year.

This includes 540 hectares of new parks, focused primarily in the outer districts but also encompassing the Huangpu riverside and the Hongqiao commercial area.

In all, 20 new parks will be added, bringing the city’s total to 240.

Other green spaces include more than 210 kilometers of green corridors along the Huangpu and Outer Ring Road and a 1,000-meter-long shelter forest on the north side of the G15 Highway in southern Shanghai’s Jinshan district.
