Doesn't it feel like every year the Bund establishments are trying to compete over who can put on the most festive decorations? Don't get us wrong, we're not complaining. Far from it. We're here to tell you about the new lil' Chalet installed inside Mr & Mrs Bund, and if this doesn't give you winter feels, then you seriously need a break from Shanghai my dude.
Installed at the back right of the restaurant, Le Chalet is a quaint wooden hut serving a separate booze and snack menu of Alpine wintery delights, which basically equates to an excuse for eating lots and lots and lots of melted cheese.
From the Chalet menu, we'd say the biggest draw is the raclette. Not had raclette yet? It's basically a big old wheel of cheese under a heat lamp, which gets scraped off onto things like bread, baby potatoes and ham (RMB80/120). Sadly, a direct-to-face raclette option is not available, though we did ask.
The other big draw is the tasty mulled wine (RMB50). Unlike the English version of this hot booze classic, usually hastily assembled 10 minutes before a Christmas party using wine from a box, this mulled wine has undergone the Paul Pairet treatment. We're told the recipe took a month to develop, involving wine reductions and other kitchen wizardry that we promptly forgot after three glasses of the stuff. It's potent!
More substantial eats include the roasted pumpkin (RMB120), a whole baby pumpkin relieved of its seeds and filled with a delicious creamy soup, lardons, pumpkin meat and a host of other yummy things. Definitely one for the 'Gram.
If you're down for a drop of festive/après ski cheer, Le Chalet will be staying in MMB for the duration of Christmas and even into January. Open daily from 5.30pm until late. Joyeux noël!
