They say honesty is the best policy, but what happens when honesty levels are put to the test?
Well, as they say, now there's an app for that.
Welcome, Honest Shanghai, a new app that will determine the honesty of citizens.
Set to launch to coincide with Honesty Week, the app will allow users to check up on the reputations of local businesses.
Using an interactive map, the user of the app will be able to see the hygiene ratings of eateries or see the credit rating for companies which trade overseas. The app will also let citizens check their own ‘public credit data’ score.
Citizens ‘public credit data’ is determined by their political, commercial, social and legal activity, and is recorded by central government. Users will be able to see their score by logging on with their ID number and facial recognition software.
Every 24 hours users will have their score evaluated and will have the opportunity to win rewards such as flights with Spring Airlines.
Honesty Week, which launched 12 years ago, is part of a program to enhance public engagement and improve honest business practices. The government are hoping to tap into the huge, potential user base that apps such as WeChat enjoy as a way of reaching a significant part of the population.
