As Shanghai progresses into the hotter stages of summer, a music festival is the perfect way to relax al fresco. If classical tunes are your thin, the Music in the Summer Air gala is the perfect balm to cool your senses. Both local and international talents are on show. Here’s the full lineup:
JULY 7
MISA Opening
MISA co-founder Long Yu, music director of the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, opens the festival with a smattering of instrumental and operatic pieces, featuring the SSO and fames Chinese bass-baritone Shenyang.

JULY 8
La Traviata
European flair hits town as the Hangzhou Philharmonic performs Verdi’s La Traviata, an opera based on La Dame aux Camélias by Alexandre Dumas, fils. This production was masterminded by an Italian company but features on all-Chinese cast.

Trio of Berlin Philharmonic

L’Estro Harmonico
Violinists from the Berlin Philharmonic, team up with cellists from Shanghai Symphony to perform unique versions of works by Vivaldi, Piazzolla, Brahms and more.

Tang Junqiao’s Bamboo Flute Band

A Music Journey of Romance and Folk Dances

Gong Linna and the Shanghai Chinese Orchestra
Online sensation Gong Linna shows off her incredible warbling talents, performing the much-discussed ‘Disturbed’ accompanied by the Shanghai Chinese Orchestra.

Violin Recital by Tang Yun
Tang Yun is a former child prodigy who was featured in the documentary ‘From Mao to Mozart,’ which followed the famed violinist Isaac Stern on a journey round China. Here, he plays violin sonatas by Mozart and Brahms, amongst a selection of other pieces.

BBC Frozen Planet
Become immersed in the beauty of nature and beauty of music in this concert, which features footage of the BBC documentary Frozen Planet played alongside live music. See the Arctic and Antarctic wilderness as never before.

Grand Finale
