A recurring look at what's happening at Shanghai's art galleries:


1. The Wall at Glam with Denise Huang

The Wall at Glam with Denise Huang

Each month, Glam invites an artist to take over The Wall and showcase their work. For the third edition, they welcome Denise Huang from Suzhou Cobblers, who just rolled out several new items for the season. For the launch party, DJ Endy of Daily Vinyl and Groove Bunny Records spins. Huang will also host a special silken-shoe workshop on October 27 from 1.30-4.30pm.

2. Brew x Blend

Brew x Blend (Jing Jin)

The second edition of this arts festival focuses on ‘A Future City,’ with snapshots forecasting five, 10, 50 and even 500 years in the future. Designed as a social experiment celebrating discovery, dialogue and choice, m50 will host over 150 artists, designers, filmmakers, architects, chefs, performers, writers and musicians. Visitors can interact with innovative ideas from ‘50 Portals, 50 Questions’ designed to provide unique approaches to experiencing a disparate variety of fields like art, design, food and science. Participants include Shanghai based visual artist Jing Jin (see above) and cross-discipline design and research lab, Dogma (see cover image).

3. ASVOFF in China

ASVOFF in China (Tim Yip)

Created in 2008 and launched in Paris by journalist Diane Pernet, A Shaded View on Fashion Film (ASVOFF) is the first annual fashion films festival. For Shanghai Fashion Week, it comes to China. The premiere goes down on October 14 from 4-6.30pm at The Mix Place with screenings going down on October 15 (2-5pm @ West Bund Art Center), October 16 (6-9pm @ K11), Oct 17 (2-5pm @ China Academy of Art, Shanghai Institute of Design), Oct 18 (5-7pm @ China Academy of Art, Shanghai Institute of Design), Oct 22 (2-5.15pm @ Shanghai Himalayas Center) and Oct 23 (2-4pm at Power Station of Art). Past films have focused on distinguished fashion artists like Tim Yip (see above), whose solo exhibition, Reformation, runs until Oct 23 at Power Station of Art.

4. Wind in the Pine

Wind in the Pine

Noted art critic Lin Yu has invited Hong Kong artist Ceng Jiawei to join Shanghai’s Liang Yue in showcasing their video works for the latest MOcA Pavilion exhibition. Opens on Oct 14 at 6.30pm.

5. Wanimal

Wanimal

A prolific photographer devoted to “bringing a new angle to the female form” showcases some of his most popular and well-known works at I-tattoo Art Space on Panyu Lu for a week. Check out his works on his Tumblr page that he updates daily.

6. Information Sculpture Superhighway

Information Sculpture Superhighway

Xu Zhen’s famed MadeIn Gallery has reopened in the West Bund with this group exhibition exploring “social sculpture” across a variety of mediums. Exciting young artists participating include Ding Li, Feng Mengbo, He An, Liu Chengrui, Lu Pingyan, Miao Ying, Shen Xin, UMA and Wang Sishun.
