Style Radar: Jova Health's Scented Candles

You may have seen Jova Health drinks at places like Hunter Gatherer and various high-end supermarkets around the city, but Jen Hau and Polly Zhang have always wanted to expand the offerings of their modern Eastern wellness brand since its founding in 2013. Recently, Jova introduced three new scented candles, marking the first step of their venture into lifestyle products.

“Our drinks are an exploration of our taste memories. The scented candle line is all about scent memory.  We have always loved the way scents are able to trigger forgotten memories… They also have an incredible ability to help people relax, which is one of the main tenets of our brand,” explains Hau.

Jova Health

Jova's candles are made with all-natural wax – a blend of beeswax, non-GMO soy wax, and food grade coconut oil – while the three flavors pay homage to Hau and Zhang’s Chinese heritage. There’s the ‘Nourish’ candle, which combines the scents of vanilla (stemming from the founders' love for White Rabbit milk candies) with sandalwood; ‘Purify’ uses osmanthus as the main note – a smell that surrounds the streets of Shanghai in the fall; the spice-filled ‘Replenish’ is a tribute to the memories of preparing food in the kitchen and the anticipation of enjoying a meal with family.

Looking ahead to the future, Hau tells us that Jova will continue to explore other products to promote the idea of healthy living with all five senses. She teases, “We are looking first to fill out our line of beverages and candles before the end of the year, and then to proceed to the sense of feel through a line of all-natural skincare product.”
