Shake
From the same guys that brought the city Heyday jazz lounge, Shake is a live music venue, restaurant and bar that strikes a considerably more upbeat tone than it's sultry older sister. Modeled after a "hip 60s Mad Men style supper club," Shake is part of a new generation of F&B concepts that redefines the traditional nightlife model to suit local tastes.
Price: RMB150-300 per person (including alcohol)
Who's going: locals and expats, lots of ladies on Wednesdays
Good for: casual dining, small groups, cocktails, dates, live music

The Cannery
The Cannery is like the chilled out sequel to The Nest with a focus on the food and drink culture of West Coast Canada. Think lots of seafood, with plenty of whisky and rye to wash it down with.
Price: RMB200-400 per person
Who’s going: young locals and expats
Good for: groups, seafood, whisky

Niku Ryori Yamachan
Niku Ryori Yamachan is unlike any Japanese restaurant we’ve visited in Shanghai. Similar to a high-end sushi restaurant in format, the difference here is that fish is supplanted with nine (!) courses of ultra-premium marbled beef, beef and more beef.
Price: RMB600-1,100 per person
Who's going: Japanese expats, locals
Good for: steak lovers, impressing guests, dates, special occasions

Ramen Nagi
We're lucky enough to live in a city where ramen drought is no longer a problem. Over the last year Shanghai has seen good quality entrants in the form of Ramen Samurai Ryu, Ramen Shop, Butao, and now Ramen Nagi, installed within the bizarrely popular K11 Art Mall. If you've visited Butao before, you'll notice a lot of similarities between their menu and at the one here. There's a 'Red King' (spicy flavor), 'Black King' (black garlic and calamari ink), 'Green King' (olive oil, Parmesan and basil), and Ramen Nagi's proudest creation: 'Original King Butao' (tonkotsu pork broth). It's hot as balls outside, but that won't stop us from eating at this new ramen shop.

Mo's
Housed in a chic four-story villa next to Camel Sports Bar, Mo’s is a new entrant to Shanghai’s food scene, combining Spanish and Italian classics with a dose of steak for good measure. Boasting a bar and lounge, nice and comfy couches as well as a lush rooftop patio, it’s easy to see why this place is always packed.
Price: RMB250-300 per person
Who’s going: locals and expats
Good for: steak, grilled food, dates, groups

Bars & Clubs
Reel to Reel
As one of Shanghai’s first electronic producers, Dave K has been devoted to planting seeds for the scene to grow as the former music director at uDance Radio. Having already outgrown the space of his award-winning Jing’an vinyl club URVC, which is located in a residential complex, Disco Dave has done it again with the creation of a new club: Reel to Reel.
Price: drinks and shots from RMB30-80, admission typically RMB50 with one free drink.
Who’s going: hip hop fans, club kids, DJ crews
Good for: dancing, late night partying

Revolucion 2
Bigger and better than ever, Revolucion's second, significantly larger location, what we will henceforth refer to as Revolucion 2, has arrived to Jing'an to the great delight of a community of bright-eyed expats looking to grab a drink (or three) without having to worry about the Yongkang 10pm curfew. All the more relevant given recent news that a sizable chunk of bars on the street may be closing...
