While some fans feared that the hugely popular HBO series might dip in quality now that they don’t have any more George RR Martin books to source, season six of Game of Thrones has been absolutely enchanting. It's a bittersweet day as it comes to an end, but with so much to resolve at Westeros, episode 10 should be an epic one. Watch at Arcade.

The Hamburg based Deutsches Schauspielhaus' contribution to the first annual Theatertreffen in China is an adaptation of famed Norweigian playwright Henrik Ibsen's second-to-last play. John Gabriel Borkman follows the aftereffects of the titular character’s imprisonment for speculating with investor’s money as a bank manager and its effect on his family’s fortunes.

June 30–July 2: House Sitting

Long-running Shanghai improv group Zmack takes inspiration from the hit New York/Chicago production Stolen House for this fully-improvised two-act comedic play. Six of the city’s finest improv actors will weave a new tale each night with no script while interacting with a set they’ve never seen before.

July 1: Canada Day

149 years after the Queen of England signed-off on giving the three provinces of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Canada (now Ontario and Quebec) the go-ahead to unite and make their decisions, the country of Canada once again celebrates its birthday. The Pearl hosts a Canada Day edition of their Country Live night featuring the Hongkou Tonks (which we have tickets available for here) and expect bars across the city serving up deals to celebrate Canucks everywhere.

This new age of Asian cinematic cooperation has never looked more thrilling in this star-studded Mainland-Hong Kong-South Korea co-production. South Korean heartthrob Lee Min-ho makes his first appearance in a Chinese film, alongside Wallace Chung (The Continent) and Tang Yan (Farewell for Love). South Korean director Shin Tae-ra brings the manic touch that made his 2009 film My Girlfriend Is an Agent a big hit in this story about five young danger-loving strangers who team up to capture criminals for rewards. Filmed in China, Thailand and South Korea, Bounty Hunters used a top Hollywood team for special effects with promises of gunfights, car races and parachuting escapades.

New Noise are bringing back the Scandinavian shoegaze giants for what promises to be a packed show. The Nordic Award winners have built up a rabid fanbase through mixing indie and dreampop sounds in an electronic haze. Their album Lesser Matters was included in NME’s Album of the Decade. Known as the “son of Shanghai techno,” the electronic musician celebrates his enchanting D-Force debut, Folding Traces, with a national tour. For his hometown show, MHP will be bringing the disc alive with help from trumpeter Xia Bao, keyboardist gaajaahaa and DJ Jackie for a dazzling live set that fuses metropolitan jazz and techhouse dance music.

The LA-based DJ and producer has gone from Beatport chart topper to collaborating with Pitbull on the platinum selling hit, ‘Don’t Stop the Party.’ Despite his recent pop bonafides, TJR was first an underground favorite thanks to an impressive set full of live spinning, rolling and scratching.

The Rinse FM favorite has established himself as the King of UK Funky thanks to banging appearances on Boiler Room and striking singles released on tastemaking labels like Numbers and Hotflush Recordings. Swimful, Sleepless and Allan Marshall support.

July 1: Yasmin

The Ministry of Sound affiliated DJ first broke out touring with British rapper Example and now works with the likes of Ed Sheeran Major Lazer and Bloc Party. Also a singer-songwriter, Yasmin mixes her naturally charming pop star persona with a hard sound that features elements of house, UK garage and disco. Tobias Patrick, Nik Hilp and PCJ support.

The Nickelodeon favorite comes to life in this English language production by Australia’s Life Like Touring. In Search for the City of Lost Toys, Dora must find her lost teddy bear with the help of friends like Diego as well as the audience. The intrepid explorer must use all her skills from counting to languages to complete her mission in this interactive performance, perfect for kids 2-8 years old.

Following its successful launch last year, this art fair for emerging or undiscovered artists returns to take over Shanghai Exhibition Center. More than 200 artists under the age of 45 from all over China will take part.

July 2: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – Out of the Shadows

The 1980s hit cartoon series has charmed a new generation with its 2014 reboot, which became a surprise hit. In the follow-up, Donatello, Michaelangelo, Raphael and Leonardo must tap into their collective turtle power as they face off against their sworn enemy, The Shredder, who is aided by two newly converted mutants, Bebop and Rocksteady. It’s not just a CGI fest, as Transformers’ Megan Fox and Arrow’s Stephen Amell reprise their roles as intrepid reporter April O’Neil and corrections officer Casey Jones. The film has already grossed over USD100 million, topping the American box office last month on its opening weekend. Cowabunga!

Shanghai Brunch Club and Little Ku Closet team up for a family-friendly outdoor BBQ event that will double as a fundraiser for Heart 2 Heart Shanghai’s mission to support children in need of corrective heart surgery. School’s out and this national series of shows celebrates by bringing some of China’s top indie acts together for a raucous welcome to the summer party season. The Shanghai show is particularly killer, pairing Wuhan break-wave pioneers AV Okubo (whose fans include Gang of Four’s Andy Gill) with hometown heroes, Dirty Fingers. July 2-15: Music in the Summer Air (MISA)

For six years, Music in the Summer Air (MISA) has been one of Shanghai’s most eclectic festivals, bridging contemporary classical with other mediums. With a theme of The Swinging Sixties, MISA 7 boasts a stacked and diverse lineup featuring Jane Birkin, famed collaborator and muse to Serge Gainsbourg, a modern take on The Dark Side of the Moon, a Warholian tribute from the founder of Galaxie 500, the world premiere of a new piece by award-winning Turkish pianist Fazil Say and several performances by he world renowned New York Philharmonic, who serves as this year's MISA orchestra-in-residence. July 3: Central Studios Summer Fair Day

Now entering its seventh year, the photo studio is hosting their annual summer fair. Fashion designers, artisans and other creatives will be showcasing their latest goods with music supplied by local fixtures Raw-B, Allan Marsall, Ado-8 and Cody Allen. There will be a special kids room featuring a craft station hosted by Brutcake, as well as food and drink pop-ups. All proceeds will be donated to The Library Project to donate libraries to an under-resourced school. Past Central Studio events have already led to six donated libraries.

One of China’s most celebrated and daring modern dance choreographers, Zhao Liang, presents the final chapter of his Oriental Desire of the Soul trilogy. Using a play within a play device, Escaping from the Temple reinterprets two of kunqu’s most revered pieces, Si Fan and Shuang Xia Shan.

July 3-4: Waiting for Godot

The inaugural Theatertreffen in China festival concludes with The Deutsches Theater, Berlin’s minimalist adaptation of Samuel Beckett’s absurdist classic. Directed by Ivan Panteleev, the award-winning 2014 show continues the theater’s historic legacy of artistic innovation.

July 3-9: Cirkopolis

Cirque Éloize has blazed trails in the contemporary circus world for their ‘circus in a suitcase’ shows tailormade for theaters. For their inaugural China tour, they perform their Drama Desk Award winning show about one man’s efforts to bring some color into his dreary industrial town. Expect spectacular feats of acrobatics with props like the Cyr wheel, German wheel and the Chinese pole.

Fresh off teaming with Le Eco to bring the Boiler Room to China for its record-setting debut, the folks at dART are now bringing a Burning Man-style party to Inner Mongolia’s Ulan Buh desert from August 21-27. To hype up the week-long sensory experience, they’re organizing a series of pre-parties across the country. The Shanghai stop features sets from hometown heroes MIIA and Will A, as well as Beijing favorite Diva Li. Limited early bird tickets to Phoenix Burn will be available on-site.

Since becoming the first Chinese winner of the Chopin International Competition at 18, Yundi’s stardom has spread. While he routinely performs on the world’s most prestigious stages, the pianist has frequently embarked on extensive national tours, bringing classical music to China’s second- and third-tier cities. His latest Shanghai show features an all-Chopin programme.

This vintage cabaret pays tribute to the famed 19th century musical hall, Folies Bergere of Paris, and the Ziegfeld Follies, a series of elaborate early 20th century Broadway theatrical productions. Miss Lulu Galore and her newly founded all-female chorus dancers group, The Flapper Factory, will be joined by leading Taiwan dance specialist Reco Cheng, aerial performer Miss Amy A, songstress Marilyn Larsson and much more. The co-owner of London’s famed purveyors of grime, Butterz, headlines the latest Footprints party. The budding bassline god is known for a fiery militaristic sound best captured on underground classics like last year’s Shotta.

July 8-17: Traces

Founded by seven former top members of Cirque du Soleil, Les 7 Doigts de la Main has been winning contemporary circus awards by mixing traditional acrobatics with contemporary dance and street elements like skateboarding and basketball. Traces follows seven people trapped inside as an unknown catastrophe is happening outside, who decide to live their last moments to the fullest. Suitable for ages five and up.

July 9: Hang on the Box

China's first all-female punk band formed way back in 1998 and frontwoman Gia Wang has been furiously blazing paths since. The group has scored a cover on Newsweek, secured a Japanese record deal and were possibly the first Mainland group to tour America (way back in 2003). While they've largely been dormant since their last full-length album in 2007, Hang on the Box are back with a new lineup made of Mainland music vets and the same furious attitude of Gia Wang. Before they head into the studio to record their next album, they will be playing their first show in Shanghai in over a decade. Shanghai stalwarts Round Eye and Goushen open.

The London producer has been wowing tastemakers from Vice to Spin with a sound that’s evolved from ecstatic pop to ambient soundscapes. Her debut single for the cool kids at PC Music lives up to its title of ‘heads will roll/I will devour you.’ While she’s currently working on a score for the debut feature by Kristoffer Borgli, she will be making an appearance at The Shelter in anticipation of the summertime release of her first PC Music EP.

Until July 10: Water Fight Season 2

After drawing thousands to the South Bund last year, this water fight carnival is back in an expanded 5,000- square-meter space. Players can choose to take part in the WaterFight Zone, a maze shaped spaced inspired by Running Man, or a Mega Water War, an epic free-for-all with 100 players randomly split into two teams with the goal of taking enemy ground. Beers and treats from the barbecue will be available. Ticket includes one water gun, two water grenades, a towel and a 60-minute game.

ShanghaiPRIDE Theatre Festival ends with ErGao Dance Company’s fascinating show set to 1980s Chinese disco music. Commissioned by the Ibsen International, Disco-Teca astounded at the Italian international arts festival GenderBender with this performance serving as the start of its world tour. July 13: Battle of the Baos

The mighty bao has sparked a Shanghai culinary trend and two of the city’s finest chefs do battle for bao supremacy. Baoism’s young gun chef Alex Yu will face off against Liquid Laundry’s Simon Sunwoo with the winner chosen by you. RMB100 tickets come with one bao and one side dish from each chef, plus one drink of choice.

The Florida indie-rockers have tasted the highs of rock success (touring with musical heroes Pixies, a major label deal with Warner Bros) and also its lows (being dropped by Warner Bros). However, they've refound that spark now that they're back being independent on their fine third album, 1,000 Palms. July 13-August 7: Slide the City

Since launching in Salt Lake City two years ago, this massive block party has toured more than 100 cities and will make its Asian debut. The Shanghai edition features a slide that organizers are promising will be the “length of a 60-storey building.” On-site vendors will provide food and drink options while DJs supply the entertainment, adding to the festive vibe.

It’s French National Day and considering how much of an influence the blue, white and red has on Shanghai, the city is going to be filled with parties. Bar Rouge hosts a special French National Day edition of their always-raging Girls Night Out party on July 14. Mr & Mrs Bund are going all out with four days of indulgent celebrations including a special RMB488 sharing set dinner from July 14-17 and a special edition of La Boum on July 15 featuring 70s and 80s disco classics. Norman Cook’s had an eclectic career, topping the UK charts with indie rockers The Housemartins and again with Beats International. As Fatboy Slim, he brought big beat to the mainstream with irresistible hits ‘The Rockefeller Skank’ and ‘Praise You.’ Free to do his own thing, he releases the odd passion project like his collaboration with Talking Head’s David Byrne on a concept album devoted to the infamous former First Lady of the Philippines, Imelda Marcos, while bringing his manic flair to major festivals like Ultra and Glastonbury.

July 14-15: Hallé Orchestra

Under the direction of Sir Mark Elder, the Manchester orchestra has won five Gramophones. As part of Shanghai Grand Theatre's year-long celebrations of the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death, the Hallé Orchestra will perform a special Bard related programme on July 15. They will also collaborate for the first time with Xi’an-born, London-based cellist Wang Jian on July 14 for the first time.

Say Yes celebrates its first anniversary with a party featuring one of the most subversive artists in Berlin’s flourishing techno scene. Since dropping his first release in 1999 on Pure Plastic, Williams has crafted an acclaimed sound, mixing a variety of genres while staying true to Detroit house and techno traditions.

New York City hip hop producer Kenny Beats and Los Angeles electronic whiz kid Ryan Marks have brought together the freshest sounds from both coasts in this acclaimed genre-bending duo. While Kenny has produced for the likes of Schoolboy Q, Loudpvck has cultivated a distinct sound mixing almost every sub-genre of EDM with a hip hop approach. They make their Shanghai debut headlining SHFT’s latest party.

It’s literally a magical day at The Pearl as China’s first digital magician, Leivy Song, returns for a dazzling performance that mixes LED, fusion holography and AR technology for a 3D interactive magic show. Earlier in the day, a bilingual interactive multimedia magic show suitable for the whole family takes place, telling a wondrous story of three magic players battling for rights over the kingdom. The battle for Shanghai football supremacy is always fierce, but this one has even higher stakes. After a dream season where they finished second, Shanghai SIPG have been scuffling a bit but currently sit in fourth place just outside of an automatic entry to the AFC Champions League. However, just behind them is the city’s original team, Shanghai Shenhua, who are eager to reclaim their crown as the city’s top team. Expect an even more charged atmosphere at Hongkou Football Stadium.

After thrilling the city’s jazz cats last month, the Grammy winning tenor saxophonist is back at Heyday for an encore. Acclaimed as one of the world’s “most talented, poetic artists,” the London-born, New York-based sax man has released eight albums as a band leader and have hopped on countless others as an in-demand sideman. For the Shanghai show, he teams with some of the city’s finest, including special guest vocalist Teresa Lee.

Acclaimed UK group Chapterhouse Theater bring their adaptation of the Rudyard Kipling classic to stages across China. Award-winning writer Laura Turner contributes the screenplay which includes a few new characters, with The Jungle Book wowing crowds across England and Ireland since its premiere three years ago.

The young singer-songwriter has been winning rave reviews around the globe thanks to her distinct take on modern pop. She’s scored number one albums from Australia to the UK. Her third album, Beautiful Lies, came out in January featuring hits ‘Keeping Your Head Up’ and ‘Wild Horses.’ Her Shanghai debut is part of Live Nation’s Zai Live series of shows at the recently reopened Majestic Theatre.

Since parlaying her impressive appearance on So You Think You Dance China into the creation of D.Lab three years ago, Duan Jingting has shown that Shanghai dancers can hold their own in the contemporary dance world. For their latest show, they’ve brought Wang Jianhui of the famed Nederlands Dans Theatre (NDT) home in their ongoing mission to work with revered dancers across the world. Following the smashing success of Rain Room, Budi Tek’s Yuz Museum host this immense retrospective exhibition devoted to one of the 20th century’s greatest sculptors. Regarded as a modernist master, Giacometti had a profound impact on post-War art, earning the moniker ‘the artist of artists.’ 250 masterpieces created from 1917 to 1966 will be on display.

All Month: My Little Pony - Days of Friendship

This summer, fans of My Little Pony will be able to participate in this exhibition that takes over four areas of The Place in Hongqiao. Covering three themes – joy, wisdom and courage – highlights include a rainbow adventure pool, a magic library and a happy candy market. On weekends there will be dance and cooking shows, as well as cooking and painting classes for parents and kids. Cute and fun, we just found a new destination for all you cartoon lovers.

No one would ever accuse Tim Burton of lacking style. From Beetlejuice to The Corpse’s Bride, the director/producer/writer/animator has carved out a distinctly dark gothic style that remains highly influential. This massive touring exhibition features over 500 pieces of his work dating back to his childhood bringing visitors deep into his mind, split into nine areas, with the director visiting Shanghai to celebrate its opening.
