A recurring look at what's happening at Shanghai's art galleries:
1. Hu Renyi: Confession Car
Since starting in New York four years ago, Suzhou-born artist Hu Renyi’s Confession Car has amassed over 7,000 confession letters across 50 countris. The project features a customized all-white vehicle that will be roaming around Yuanmingyuan Lu (1.30-2.30pm), Weihai Lu (3-4pm), Yishan Lu (4.30-5.30pm) and Wukang Lu (6-7pm) each day. To participate, all you have to do is don the all-white confession garb and spill your secrets.

2. Nathan Zhou: Jericho
The Guangzhou-born, Shanghai-based artist has been on the rise with recent contributions to the Animamix Biennale at MOcA (see image). Now he brings his playful, lo-fi style to the West Bund Art & Design center for a solo exhibition. Opens on May 28 from 5-7pm. For more, check out our feature on Animamix Biennale.

3. Li Ran: Same Old Crowd
Aike Dellarco opens its new West Bund digs with this solo exhibition by Li Ran. Inspired by a recent trip to Singapore, Li has created works ranging from video installations to a short novel. Opens on May 28 at 5pm.

4. B-Movie
Originally a term from the Great Depression to describe crude double bill movies, B-Movies have inspired Hong Kong’s cinematic glory days of the 1980s and 90s while becoming critically accepted and often revered. J:Gallery hosts this group exhibition featuring eight emerging artists from China and East Asia (Jian Ce, Zhong Yunshu, Xie Kan, Liu Zhangbolong, Tan Tian, Wang Ge, Zheng Tianming and Haffendi Anuar), who have created rebellious works partially inspired by their experiences of living abroad. Opens on May 27 from 4.30-7.30pm.

5. Tell Me a Story: Locality and Narrative
This group exhibition features artists from across Asia sharing “11 stories from distinct regional cultures as they have evolved through the modern era.” Works range from Japanese photographer Tomoko Yoneda’s look at the deserted Sakhalin Island (see cover image) to a video installation by Apichatpong Weerasethakul on the border of Northern Thailand (see above).

6. Matjaz Tancic - 3DPRK
The Beijing-based Slovenian photographer presents this 3D exploration of North Korea. As the first foreign photographer to be exhibited in North Korea, Tancic has teamed up with Koryo Studio on this project that will be released as a book and documentary. This talk will also be a fundraiser for Tancic’s next project, Hḗrōs, a portrait project focusing on the refugee crisis in the Mediterranean.
