Fresh off a lively JZ Festival, headliner Dee Dee Bridgewater is still in Shanghai and will make a guest appearance at Unico’s Nu Yorica night on October 21. The weekly live music session that pays tribute to the artistic vibes of New York City will be headlined by Bridgewater protege and former Shanghai staple Theo Croker with DRV Funk. In other news, S.T.D. are bringing the revered producer Flying Lotus and his complete, purportedly mindblowing full A/V live show to QSW Culture Center on November 26. Splitworks will be bringing in Neon Indian to QSW Culture Center on November 20. Formerly synonymous with chillwave, the producer has triumphantly broken out from that rep with his dancetastic new disc, VEGA Intl. Night School. In addition, the promoters will resume their Contemporale series at the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra Hall with shows by Olafaur Arnaulds on November 3 and Julia Holter on December 3.
The European-Chinese music festival China Drifting returns to MAO Livehouse on November 20 with a bill of Brandt, Bauer and Frick. On the nightlife tip, Le Baron will host Rockafella mainstay Young Guru on November 5. The Shelter will host a show by Stones Throw funk maestro Dam Funk on November 15 with tickets limited to 400 people. Meanwhile, Arkham has confirmed the lineup for the annual STD anniversary/Halloween party. British rockers The Horrors will do a ghastly DJ set with support from grime duo Mumdance and Elf Kid, as well as a live set from Beijing standout Howie Lee.
