Director Steven Spielberg completed the work started by maestro Stanley Kubrick transposing a 1969 short story by the science fiction novelist Brian Aldiss. In this fictional World one century away, “Mecha” a name for humanoid robots, are common technology and capable of complex thought.
A.I. is the story of the first "Mecha" child able to experience emotions. David - this is the name of the prototype - is childlike and "adopted" by a family but challenged by the inevitable difference in treatment between him and his human "step-brother".
In this sort of "sci-fi" reboot of Pinocchio tale, David ends up leaving his family, but also finds out how common his condition and treatment is with other Mecha, in a set of events not only leading to the exploration of their humanity, but also foreshadowing the possible evolution of such a technology.
