“See Unseen” is the latest watercolour solo exhibition by Mr. Yu Zijun, a highly respected artist who is over 90 years old. Graduated from Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts, the first fine arts school in modern China’s history. Mr. Yu studied under many famous Chinese art masters like Liu Haisu, Zhang Chongren, Ran Xi and Qian Junyao, he devoted his whole life to the art education in China and still keeps his passion for art. In Mr. Yu’s life journey of the past century, he experienced different historical moments such as the Pacific War, the Second World War against the Japanese, the Civil War, the Cultural Revolution and the Reform of China’s Open-door Policy. This exhibition follows time as the main line, reviewing Mr. Yu’s watercolours from the 1960s to the present day which spans over half century. Mr. Yu keens to use drawing as an image to capture the spatial landscape and scene at a certain point of time. He reassesses this land where he has been living through refined miniature abs.
