You’ve probably seen poke bowls on social media or overheard the buzz. For those who don’t know about this delicious food trend, here’s a brief run down.
The customizable dish is hugely popular in Hawaii, where it originated. It’s everywhere, from restaurants to gas stations to roadside stands. Poke means “to slice or cut” in Hawaiian and refers to chunks of raw, marinated fish - usually tuna - which is then tossed over rice and topped with vegetables and umami-packed sauces. It’s considered the next generation of sushi, but easier to eat.
