Back in 1963, a group of liberal artists left The Imperial Academy of Arts in protest to their strict and conservative rules, and formed their own independent artistic society. Later, they began their touring exhibitions throughout Russia where they became known as ‘The Wanderers’. Unlike the Academy’s demands, The Wanderers placed emphasis on people and the life they led. With the help of the State Tretyakov Gallery, Shanghai Museum is able to showcase their masterpieces which give viewers a better understanding of their glory in art history.
