A Bahamian singer, producer, song writer, pianist teacher but best known as a jazz vocalist, Akia was born in Nassau, Bahamas.  Her first foray into the music world starts from the piano at 5 years old when her mother taught her to play the instrument.  At the age of 18, she discovered her passion in singing jazz.  Whilst she was studying music arts in the College of Bahamas, Akia also established her presence in the jazz community.  As early as 1999, she performed with seasoned jazz musicians in Nassau.  By 2000, she was dubbed “Bahamian Ella Fitzgerald”.  In the same year she took the Trinity College of London Vocal Music examination, and she garnered the exhibition award with highest results as a vocalist worldwide.
