Established in 1959, this museum details the history of Chongming Island, highlighting artifacts such as ancient boats. One of the most important pieces, specifically for Chinese marine history research, is an 18-meter-long canoe from the Tang dynasty. Along with many water-based relics, there is also a folklore exhibition that demonstrates the unique customs of Chongming Island from clothing and food to commerce and production.
