Baluchon Description

Baluchon is a green-living startup made in Shanghai that brings together reusable products for everyday life, with a fashionable twist. They normalize the use of cloth as the alternative to single-use plastic, paper & cotton, with products like The Food Wrap, The Furoshiki Gift Wrap, The Panda Pads, The Avoska Bag, The Bento Bag and more.

Baluchon was created in 2017 by a French environmental engineer & mother of two, Nanou, who has lived in Shanghai with her family since 2010. Through her work, she has seen her fair share of instances where her modern lifestyle and consumption habits directly impact our environment and planet. She was horrified at the amount of waste created one Christmas and was motivated to change her family’s habits. Enter: (fanfare please) cloth gift wrapping!

Baluchon means “bundle” in French, in reference to the Japanese art of wrapping cloth, the “furoshiki.” Basically, every gift you give will come bundled in sustainable materials and, most importantly, love.

Baluchon uses only natural plastic-free products and minimalist packaging that is compostable at home. Everything is made in small batches and limited editions. The production waste is up-cycled into new products, so that the impact from the production is limited, in a circular economy mindset.

In May 2021, Nanou was nominated as a finalist of the IPWS Women Leadership Award in the category Entrepreneur of the Year.
