Shun Wei Description

Shunde Cuisine has been reputable ever since, but in Shanghai, one can hardly find such an authentic eatery until Shun Wei, a newly opened and Yangpu located restaurant, took the place. The owner of this restaurant has been dealing with private Shunde cuisine for many years, and this time, he brought all the delicacies into this outlet which is just inexpensive as a sidewalk snack vendor! ‘Yi Wang Da Jin’ (literally means ‘catch all in one net’) is actually steamed coarse fish, which use a bamboo basket placed with fishes, shrimps and crabs from Sangji Fish Pond, to be steamed on a charcoal oven. Really delicious! Shunde Marinated Goose Casserole is continuously heated up under charcoals until the dark brown goose soaked in soup becomes juicily delicious with a bit salty. Finished the goose meat, then go for Lipu taro laid on the casserole’s button, soft, glutinous and aromatic, no worse than other ingredients. Other good foods are Pan Fried Dace, Daliang Fried Milk, Lo Hei and Nan Rurou etc. So you don’t have to leave Shanghai just to take such authentic Shunde food.

Shun Wei offers ‘Shunde Cuisine’ with its façade keep somehow low profile. After entering the venue, you will find it’s quite big, and you will also see a ‘blue lotus’ painting on the wall, ‘red fan’ menu, quite archaic. Shunde Fish Raw is their signature food, with ‘stunning’ appearance and implied Chinese name. There is a documentary, Once Upon a Bite, talked about this dish. Fishes are sliced toped with shredded onion, ginger and garlic etc. and when eating, spread some seasonings on it, really refreshingly awesome!  Other recommendations: Shunde Fried Prawn Cutlets, Shunde Daliang Fried Milk, Shunde Fish Maw with Braised Chicken, Shunde Fried Baked Fish Mouth, Shunde Big Pot etc.
