Hakgojae opened its doors in Seoul in 1988 and in Shanghai in 2013. The gallery's name derives from the saying "to review the old to learn the new" in the Analects of Confucius. Based on this saying, Hakgojae primarily focuses on showcasing works of precursors, who have reinterpreted traditional philosophy and spirit through the language of modern art, in the course of over 200 exhibitions. Hakgojae desires to lead Korean and Chinese art market and charts directions on how two countries art ought to be harmonized and developed within contemporary global culture.
