Kempinski, Europe’s oldest luxury hotel group, is managing a brand new hotel, THE ONE – Executive Suites Shanghai (as if the name isn’t presumptuous enough, they amp it up a notch with caps lock). After it officially opens over Chinese New Year, the ‘business meets fashion’ haute hotel hopes to attract both long term visitors who hunker down for months and chic travelers who want to bunk-up in style. Each of the 244 one, two and three bedroom suites come with a separate living room equipped with a kitchenette or full kitchen, depending on room size (62-600sqm). The posh penthouse includes a sprawling, manicured rooftop garden. Despite its grand scale, THE ONE isn’t one for overlooking the little details; rooms have a full range of European cookware, fancy German bathroom fixtures and high-tech trimmings like a flat screen TV and iPod dock. Room rates are still up in the air, but bets are, they’ll be premium.
