Terranga upset ReUnited... Azzurri in sulk after gay slur?

On Dec 3rd 2011 the first round of the Hebiguchi Cup took place, Named after Mr Hebiguchi who played for Japan about 10 years ago or so and tragically left his life on the pitch, the League Cup was renamed Hebiguchi Cup to remember him and fittingly Japan was the first team to win this cup in his honor. Teams from both divisions compete in this knock-out competition.

Most Premier League teams booked wins over First Division teams in their draws. However the upset of the day was in the match between first division Teranga FC versus premier league Shanghai ReUnited. The swinging boys from Africa had no trouble ousting fourth ranked SIFL team Shanghai Reunited as they knocked them out of the cup with a solid 3-1 victory.

The Vikings are through beating the Cosmos 5-1. Happy FC complained about the draw and then failed to show up on the day, handing DIB FC a 5-0 victory. Oranje FC played a hard fought battle with the Shanghai Nomads. The score was tied 2-2 at half time, but Benoit Doche of Oranje scored his 2nd goal deep in the 2nd half for a 3-2 victory and a place in the next round. Powerhouse Big Bamboo Shooters AFC got a 4-0 win over hapless Beaver. Francois Mosnier scored two goals winning it for the Puxi Lions versus Voodoo 2-0

The story of the day, however, was the Japan versus Azzurri match. As the kick-off time got nearer and nearer and no Italian in sight, it appeared that the boys from Italy took a trip to Thailand for a team building session at the Girls-A-Go-Go Club as they simply ‘forgot’ about their game (perhaps in protest over slurs against their sexuality last week). No big deal but the strict but fair SIFL Committee must now decide about punitive measures for Azzurri FC. Obviously they are out of the cup and perhaps some additional punishment is in order. Such as playing their next match without boots or with one eye closed. Whatever will be decided remains top secret for now but will be announced shortly.

The last round of games in 2011 of the Shanghai International Football League is scheduled to take place on Dec. 10, 2011. Visit the official wesite to find out more.
