Last year, AmCham South China presented the award to then-U.S. Ambassador to China Jon Huntsman Jr.
“The Chamber wanted to acknowledge that even in the middle of the world’s economic difficulties,” said AmCham South China President Harley Seyedin. He explaining the reasoning behind the awards, “the number of companies setting up business in Guangdong, and specifically Guangzhou, keeps increasing.”
According to data from the upcoming 2012 Special Report on the State of Business, nearly 60 percent of the organization’s members are based in Guangzhou. The report furthermore estimates that AmCham South China members will re-invest in excess of $11 billion in Guangdong over the coming three years to expand their existing operations in order to meet growing market demand.
