Contemporary exhibition: Visual Polity – Another Wang Guangyi
He Xiangning Art Museum, Shenzhen (0755 2660 4540)
Taking the lead in defining the direction of Chinese art during the early 1980s, Wang Guangyi was one the earliest Chinese artists to be well-known around the world, after participating in many important exhibitions such as the Biennale of Venice and the Biennale of Sao Paulo since 1990. Some of Wang's pieces created since 1989, which have not been shown before, are now on display in Shenzhen thanks to the efforts of OCAT. These works have been divided into four categories: Conjuncture Premonition (1989), System Research (1990-2001), Materialism Theology (2000-2008), and Cold War Aesthetics (2007-2008), revealing some of the lesser-known aspects of an iconic master of Chinese contemporary art.
