Construction officially commenced on the new Guangzhou Railway Station to Guangzhou South Railway Station railway link today, September 27.
Once completed, this vital rail connection will significantly reduce travel time between Guangzhou Railway Station and Hong Kong's West Kowloon Station to under one hour.
The railway link will traverse key areas, including Nanhai District in Foshan, Liwan District and Panyu District in Guangzhou.
Spanning a total length of 16 kilometers, trains are designed for a maximum speed of 200 kilometers per hour.
Upon completion, the line will seamlessly connect crucial transport hubs such as Guangzhou city center, Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, Guangzhou North and Guangzhou South Railway Stations.
While Guangzhou Railway Station and Guangzhou South Railway Station are existing railway terminals, the construction of the rail link is estimated to take four years, with the anticipated launch of operations by late 2027.
Currently, there is no direct railway line connecting Guangzhou Railway Station to Guangzhou South Railway Station; passengers need to switch between the two stations using Guangzhou's subway system, bus or taxi.
This new rail link is expected to not only significantly improve connectivity, but also enhance the overall travel experience for passengers commuting between these vital transportation hubs.
