On Tuesday, Rebel Rebel said via WeChat that the restaurant will be closing in Guangzhou. The restaurant and bar enjoyed eight good years on Tianhe Dong Lu and recently moved its location to Haizhu district. Here’s an excerpt from Rebel Rebel’s official WeChat account:
“It is with great sadness that we have to announce the closure of Rebel Rebel. After 8 years of successful business at our old location on Ti Yu Dong Lu we were looking forward to a fresh start with the new Rebel Bar & Grill. However, due to unforeseen problems at the new location we have decided that the business does not have a viable future, and have therefore reluctantly taken the decision to close. We want to thank everyone for their support of the bar since 2012 and for the great memories you brought us.”
The news comes as quite a surprise to us, as the restaurant celebrated its grand opening of the Haizhu location in November. According to one of the owners, the new venue was planning to be more food focused with a BBQ menu.
Rebel Rebel was a friendly hangout for the international community and hosted several weekly events during its time, such as karaoke night, open mic night and football pregames. It will surely be missed!
