Wed, Dec 25: Lisa Ono

Japanese-Brazilian bossa nova singer Lisa Ono was born in Sao Paulo and started creating magical sounds with her natural voice and a guitar at the age of 15 before becoming a popular bossa nova singer in Japan. She’s been active on stage in New York City, Brazil and Asia. On Christmas Day, Ono will grace Guangzhou with a repertoire of melodic songs with a bossa nova touch, such as ‘La vie en Rose’ and ‘Quizas, Quizas, Quizas.’

Fri, Dec 27: Hand in Hand International Children’s Music Festival

Hand in Hand International Children’s Music Festival is a music fest intended for the whole family. Disappointed in the lack of new children’s music in China, Chinese singer-songwriter and author Liu Jian and his American wife Rebecca Kanthor created Hand in Hand so that their children, and all kids in China, could have a chance to hear the best live music for families from around the world and learn about different cultures through music. Hand in Hand’s Guangzhou stop will feature Grammy and Emmy-winning husband and wife duo Lucky Diaz and the Family Jam Band, as well as Hippe Gasten from Holland. Join Guangzhou-based hiking enthusiast and environmentalist Rhea on a ‘pliking’ trip! The adventurous sibling of ‘plogging,’ pliking involves both hiking and the picking-up of rubbish and is the perfect activity for those looking to stay in shape and help Momma Nature out at the same time! This time around, the pliking squad will be visiting Liupian Mountain up in Baiyun district. Meeting location is Exit B2, Yongtai Metro Station (Line 3). Don’t Touch My Hands is a children’s show, in which shadow puppetry encounters silent cinema. Combining humor and music to create a collection of stories packed with amusement, this shadow play is appealing to a wide range of audiences. Argentine puppeteer Valeria Guglietti is a specialist in shadow play performed with her hands, thanks to the enormous dexterity she has built up by playing the piano since childhood. Using only a single spotlight and both hands, Guglietti creates fantastic images that enact short stories reaching out to the imagination of the audience. To purchase tickets, call 186 6478 9884.

Sun, Dec 29: National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine

Under the baton of Italian conductor Nicola Giuliani, the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine will stage a New Year's concert in Xinghai Concert Hall, performing classical works by Tchaikovsky.

Sun, Dec 29: Special ‘Year in Review’ Quiz at Morgan’s

The trivia event will run from 2-5pm – you know, to ensure everyone is fresh and ready for work the following morning.
