A man in Guangzhou was recently caught using a camera inside his shoe to ‘upskirt’ a woman at the Hanxi Changlong Station on Metro Line 3.
The disturbing act, which refers to taking non-consensual photos under a person’s dress or skirt, was noticed by another person waiting in line, who chased after the pervert as he tried to flee.

According to a post by the Guangzhou Public Security Bureau’s official Weibo account, civil police and metro workers caught the man, and soon discovered the camera hidden inside his shoe. He was detained for 10 days following the biantai (perverted) act.

Unfortunately, upskirting is an ongoing problem in Chinese society, with a steady flow of reports showing men brazenly taking photos under womens’ clothing. In 2017, an employee at a Guangzhou sports equipment company was caught red-handed taking a photo underneath a girl’s skirt at a high school football tournament.

Metro stations appear to be particularly susceptible to this despicable practice. A quick search on Weibo revealed numerous recent reports of men caught upskirting unsuspecting women inside metro stations.
However, this case involving a hidden shoe camera, reveals the lengths some individuals will go to.
