There is no shortage of fantastic Chinese food to be eaten in Guangzhou, but there are times when nothing satisfies like a good ol’ burger. And what better compliments the meaty meal than a glass of ice-cold suds? If this timeless combo resonates with you in moments of hunger, check out the three restaurants below to discover the perfect places to fill your belly.
1. Beams

Specializing in Western-style fare, Beams’ simple and warm interior makes the restaurant perfect for a relaxing meal. Their chefs – who hail from Shanghai – have over 18 years of experience cooking Western cuisine, and when you bite into one of their juicy burgers, that fact will be immediately evident.
Using the heartiest of beef patties, Beams whips up a variety of meaty masterpieces, with classic toppings like crispy bacon and nutritious eggs, and some more obscure – but unquestionably delectable – selections, like rich portions of foie gras.
We recommend complementing the hamburger with an equally satisfying beer from Jing-A Brewing Co. Founded in Beijing back in 2012, Jing-A offers an array of innovative beers, including IPAs, wheat beers and pilsners, which creatively utilize Chinese-style ingredients like Sichuan peppercorns and fresh ginger.
2. The Paddy Field, Irish Bar & Restaurant

Guangzhou’s first Irish bar is still around – and for good reason! This Taojin gem is a prime destination to enjoy live music and screened sporting events, not to mention the top-notch eats – notably, their fantastic burgers.
These are not simply beef patties on sesame buns, no sir. The Patty Field has poured their heart and soul into creating some truly phenomenal bovine bites. We recommend The Aussie Burger – a unique concoction of jellied onions, beetroot, a whopping slice of feta cheese and their own ‘special sauce,’ all atop a thick, heavenly chunk of meat.
Wash down the greasy grub with a pint from Brooklyn Brewery. Like the bar itself, Brooklyn Brewery’s ability to stand the test of time – founded in 1988 – proves its worth among competitors. With many celebrated classics, from Brooklyn Lager and American Pale Ale to a variety of IPAs, saisons and dark ales, Brooklyn has a beer for everyone.

3. Slow Life Kitchen Elite

While Slow Life’s newest spot in Guangzhou now has the word ‘elite’ in its name, it is by no means an elitist establishment. Indeed, the only requirement of visiting diners is a love for quality food and drink. What the extended name does reflect, however, is an elevated ambiance, credited to comfy new furniture and swanky tableware.
Patrons can’t miss out on the phenomenal pork-belly mini burgers, loaded with 18-hour slow-cooked pork. Crispy on the outside and juicy in the middle, this is roasted hog at its absolute finest.
Such a treat must be accompanied by a beer of the same caliber, and Grimbergen is certainly that. The brand can be traced back 900 years to the Norbertine monks of Grimbergen, Belgium, with the present-day suds exuding big, bold flavors that are guaranteed to have you beckoning your waiter for another round.
