Wed-Sun, Jul 24-28: La Vie en Rose the Musical

Chanson musical La Vie en Rose is inspired by the 2015 namesake Oscar-winning film, depicting the life of legendary French cabaret singer Édith Piaf. The two-act show stars young French performer Anne Carrere, who has been hailed as Piaf’s musical heiress. Complemented by vivid stage effects, the musical allows audiences to ‘relive’ the memory of Édith Piaf in Paris.

Thu, Jul 25: Rhythm Madness

Prestigious Chinese percussionist Yu Yue is set to lead a young and talented band in an exciting performance this week. Yu’s gift for striking objects to create music was discovered at 14 years old when he commenced the study of classical percussion. As a multiple award-winning musician, he has performed with many prominent orchestras. At Xinghai Concert Hall, his collaboration with these brilliant, promising musicians is expected to be a crowd-puller.

Sat, Jul 27: InterNations Guangzhou Hawaii Party

Aloha! InterNations is bringing the Hawaiian summer vibe to Guangzhou's expat community at the chic G Bar this week. Sat, Jul 27: Live & Direct

For their live music event, the Happy Monk Party Pier invites a band from Senegal and professional DJ Dygo from Brazil. Senegal is a western African country, where various genres of music can find their own places. Dygo has been DJing for eight years. As a professional, he has a diversified playlist that includes hip-hop, trap, pop, R&B, house, tech house, club house, electro house, bigroom EDM, Afro beat, Brazilian funk and so on. Come and enjoy cool sounds and funky grooves from across the globe.

From Sun, Jul 28-Aug 25: For Beauty Is Nothing But the Beginning of Terror

British artist Maggi Hambling’s first exhibition in China, For Beauty Is Nothing But The Beginning of Terror, will open on July 28 at the Guangdong Museum of Art. The exhibition was presented at the Central Academy of Fine Arts Museum in Beijing earlier this year, receiving immense praise. The career-length exhibition, which showcases about 60 Maggi Hambling’s works from the 1960s to the present day, includes oil paintings, ink, graphite, charcoal drawings as well as a number of wooden sculptures.

Until Jul 26: Register for the 2019 International Vertical Marathon Guangzhou

Ever wanted to run a marathon? How about a vertical marathon? Join the 2019 International Vertical Marathon that will be held on August 3 at OneLink Walk, a 50-floor skyscraper of 221.6 meters. Winners will come home with cash prizes ranging from RMB300 to RMB800. But more importantly, it's about participation. Contestants will be grouped into either ‘elite,’ ‘average’ or ‘couple’ races. An age limit of 18 to 55 years old is applied to participants in the stair-climbing event. Scan the QR code below to register for the vertical marathon.
