Man in Foshan Kills Neighbor's Dog in Horrid Revenge Act

A horrendous video surfaced online earlier this week that shows a man violently attacking – and eventually killing – a golden retriever.

According to the Paper, the incident took place inside a residential complex in Shunde, Foshan last week. The dog attacker, surnamed He, began beating the dog, which belonged to his neighbor Mr. Wang, after it killed his poodle during a dog fight; both animals were reportedly unleashed.

According to the Paper, Wang was injured during He’s attack on his dog and was hospitalized later on. The dog killer was detained by police for committing a criminal offense, the Shunde Police announced on their Weibo account on June 29.

The incident received mixed responses from Chinese netizens, with some saying that He was to blame after failing to put his pet on a leash in the first place. Others were enraged at the man’s reprehensible actions.

Sadly, dog beatings – sometimes leading to death – are an all too common occurence in the PRC. Last year, a male dog owner in Hangzhou brutally attacked a woman who tried to separate his unleashed dog and her daughter. The incident triggered a clampdown on dog-keeping regulations that eventually swept China, with many cities setting up stricter rules on pet keeping.

Currently, Chinese animal protection laws cover only rare and endangered wild animals, while pets are deemed personal property. In 2018, there were approximately 73.5 million pet owners and 50 million pet dogs in China, according to the China Pet Industry White Paper published this year.
