Here's 4 Things We Love About this Fine Dining Spot in Guangzhou

Every now and then we like to treat ourselves to a meal that is fit for the gastronomic gods. But what is it that takes a meal from ordinary to extraordinary? The food is a given and, frankly, some would argue the only thing that should matter. However, we’re speaking to those who love a treat for all the senses: Immaculate views of the cityscape at sunset while mouthwatering scents from delectable dishes and light banter among close friends and family fills the air. Sounds pretty nice, right? You can find all this and more at Aroma.

With a completely revamped menu boasting Western-style eats with Chinese characteristics, you’re treated to an international experience at Aroma. At Conrad Guangzhou’s city-view restaurant, you’ll enjoy a smack of sensory stimulation, world-class edibles and trusted hospitality service. Here are four more reasons why we can’t get enough of the place:

1. A Date Night Delight

Whether you’ve been extra busy at work or simply slacking in the boyfriend/girlfriend department, it’s about time you took that special someone in your life on the date they deserve. At Aroma, you can grab a booth with a stunning view of the city while enjoying the best view in the house just across the table. And even if it’s not date night, bring a group of friends or family to gather for an evening of pan-seared foie gras and roasted lamb rack with savory artichoke. Yum!

2. Slow-Cooked to Perfection

We at That’s are big fans of all meats slow-cooked, so you could imagine our excitement when we learned that Head Chef Jason Shao is a big advocate for the slow-cooking process. With super tender wagyu beef imported straight from the Land Down Under, Chef Shao prepares his steaks in the best way possible (by our assessment, anyway), placing them in a machine that slow cooks from between six to 24 hours to create the optimal tender feel. Many of the meat-focused dishes at Aroma make great use of the slow cook method, with items like salmon also getting the slow-cooked treatment. As Hell’s Kitchen star Chef Gordon Ramsey will tell you, slow-cooked meat has “that nice, little intensity” to take your meal to the next level.

3. Stunning City Views

Who doesn’t like dinner with a view? We sure do, and Aroma offers every table the best view in the house with grand glass windows giving patrons a stunning vantage point to gaze on New Canton. Whether you’re cozying up across from the Canton Tower at one of Aroma’s booths or smack in the middle of the restaurant, each table offers gorgeous views of Zhujiang New Town and Haizhu. Trust us when we say that you won’t want to look away.

Speaking of all things breathtaking, Aroma’s beef ox-tail consomme with spinach, sauteed mushrooms and black truffle is both a visual and gastronomic treat.

4. Young and ‘Hungry’ Staff

Raised in Foshan, Chef Jason Shao has nearly 10 years of hands-on experience in the kitchen. He got his start working in both Chinese and French restaurants while living abroad in France, including a stint at the one-Michelin starred Les Climats in Paris. But what’s so intriguing about this 28-year-old head chef is his rapid ascent in the culinary world, working at The Ritz-Carlton, Shanghai and Park Hyatt Guangzhou before joining the fray at Conrad Guangzhou’s Aroma restaurant. Chef Shao’s kitchen staff, comprised of young and ambitious minds, is eager to please Aroma’s hungry patrons, going above and beyond the call to deliver one-of-a-kind dishes. Whether you’re ordering the truffle pigeon agnolotti with a 10-out-of-10 foie gras butter sauce and shaved black truffles, or the Australian wagyu M5 tomahawk, a 1,500-gram slab of meat fit for the whole family, Aroma’s staff will ensure each meal is not one to forget.
