Have you ever dreamt of owning your very own oyster farm on a quiet, uninhabited island in the Pacific Ocean? We sure as hell haven’t. But if this question resonates with you, you’re in luck: some of Guangdong province’s untouched islands are officially open for business!
Guangdong’s Provincial Department of Natural Resources recently announced that a number of the province’s uninhabited islands became available for people or entities to develop starting from last Friday, according to Xinhua.
Possible purposes for island development include tourism and aquaculture projects, while real estate projects are forbidden. Xinhua’s report indicates that various time restraints will be applied to different projects, including 15 years for aquaculture development, 25 years for tourism and 40 years for public welfare undertakings.
The provincial government will assign development rights via bidding processes and, once a project plan has been given the green light, ownership documents will be issued.
