Tue, Apr 9: Guangdong Dance

This dance performance is a composite of a myriad of different dance styles found across Guangdong province. Experience the majesty of the famous lion dance, along with the Yao minority’s drum dance and the Chaoshan Yingge dance, among others, many of which are listed as intangible heritages of China. The show is comprised of 20 programs and will be staged by the fabulous South China Normal University Dance Troupe.

Tue, Apr 9: Young Master Brew Tap Takeover at Bravo
Young Master founder Rohit Dugar, along with brewer Edwin Yang and the whole YM team, come to Bravo on April 9 to share the inspiring story of Young Master Brewery. Tue-Sun, Apr 9-14: The Merchant of Venice (Chinese)

Most remembered for its dramatic scenes, this comedy by the Bard unfolds through the character Shylock and his famous “Hath not a Jew eyes?” speech, only in this rendition it is delivered in Mandarin Chinese. Come experience the competing claims of tolerance and intolerance, justice and mercy, as The Merchant of Venice gets a Chinese makeover.

Wed, Apr 10: BimBamBoom China Tour

Led by ultra-talented drummer Miyoko Yamaguchi, BimBamBoom is a largely instrumental band, punctuated with harmonious shouts and cheers. Drawing inspiration from the R&B and funk scenes of the US, they’ve managed to mold their own brand of party music. Expect a great jam at Wuyangcun’s 191 Space this Wednesday.

Wed, Apr 10: Legal Seminar: Foreign Investment in China

To officially launch the second annual South China Position Paper, join the European Chamber and friends at LN Garden Hotel’s Lobby Lounge this Wednesday. The paper compiles the latest assessments and concerns of European businesses operating in South China, with the aim to offer constructive recommendations to the cities’ policy makers. The 2019/2020 edition evaluates the region’s ongoing development and provides recommendations, from the perspective of European businesses operating in South China, to local governments.

Fri, Apr 12: Robedoor 2019 China Tour
LA deep-dream doomsayers Robedoor embark on their inaugural China tour this month. The prodigious drone duo of Britt Brown (founder of seminal American DIY weirdo network Not Not Fun Records) and Alex Brown have let the smelted metal feedback loops pool and congeal on their latest full-length release, New Age Sewage, for nearly 24 months now; it’s overripe and ready to be served cold. Fri-Sat, Apr 12-13: White Water, Little Dust

Taiwanese dancer, writer and choreographer Lin Hwai-min founded Cloud Gate Dance Theatre in 1973. Since its inception, the dance troupe has gone on to garner critical acclaim in the world of modern dance, which helped Lin to win the American Dance Festival Award for ‘lifetime achievement in modern dance.’ This captivating performance will see two separate dance works staged directly next to each other, offering the audience a dramatic visual contrast.

Fri-Sat, Apr 12-13: Valery Afanassiev Piano Concert

Valery Afanassiev is an author, poet and, most important of all, a pianist. Considered by many to be one of the most influential pianists in Europe, the Russian musician is acclaimed for interpreting classical pieces by such legendary composers as Beethoven and Schubert. Known to perform pieces at an “extraordinarily slow” pace, his shows offer music fans the chance to experience familiar tunes in an entirely new way.
