The Guangzhou Long-Lions welcomed the new lunar year with new energy, winning both of their home games this week against the Beijing Ducks and the Shanxi Zhongyu, while improving their record to 20-20.

On Tuesday, the Long-Lions took on the Beijing Ducks (27-13) and exchanged leads throughout the game before pulling through in the final quarter. Tuesday’s game also marked the coming out party for the Long-Lions newest player, Lorenzo Brown.

Drafted by the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2013, Brown has played in both the US and China, now returning for his latest stint with the Long-Lions. And standing at 196 centimeters (6 feet, 5 inches), the Guangzhou squad is now without a foreign ‘big man’ (referring to players 6 feet 10 inches or taller), after the departures of Cory Jefferson and Marreese Speights.

But on Thursday none of that mattered as the Long-Lions handled Shanxi Zhongyu (13-27) with ease, maintaining a 10-plus point margin throughout most of the game. Signs of fatigue started to show late into the fourth quarter as Shanxi pushed to within six points, but Kyle Fogg proved to be the X-factor, scoring practically at will and drawing key fouls.

The Long-Lions will have a week off (yes, another week) as the CBA takes a break to allow league players on China’s National Basketball team to travel overseas to play against Jordan and Syria.

Catch the next Long-Lions game on March 1 at Tianhe Gymnasium. With only three home games left in the regular season, come out and show your support.

Remember, you can purchase tickets online or at the South gate of Tianhe Gymnasium.
