At least seven people were injured over the weekend in a car crash on Guangzhou’s Haiyin Bridge. In footage of the incident, a black SUV appears to have suffered considerable damage, while a white sedan lies overturned in the bridge’s bike lane. A substantial portion of the roadside railing that separates bikers from motorists appears to be destroyed in the video, with scraps of metal scattered along the side of the bridge. Injured pedestrians, a number of whom appear to be in great pain, can also be seen in the footage.

According to the Guangzhou Traffic Police, the accident occurred at 1.50pm, when the aforementioned vehicles collided. Five of the injured had their wounds deemed ‘non-serious’ after examination, while two individuals were brought to hospital to receive medical treatment. The number of passengers in the vehicles and the physical condition of the drivers is currently unknown.
In other footage of the incident floating around on social media, the white sedan can be seen speeding along the bridge before colliding with the black SUV. While it’s difficult to estimate exactly how fast the white car was traveling, it’s worth noting that in footage of the crash the sedan appears to be going much faster than other vehicles on the bridge.
By 2.20pm, the two cars involved in the accident were removed from the scene and traffic on the bridge had returned to normal. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
