The highly anticipated Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge will officially open next Tuesday, October 23, with the opening ceremony to be held in Zhuhai, according to Macau Daily News.
The bridge has been under development for nine years, and has been hit with considerable delays caused by legal and technical challenges, as we previously reported.
The announcement of the bridge's sudden opening this week has caught transport companies like One Bus Hong Kong Macau by surprise, as they hurry to organize manpower ahead of the debut.
The bridge spans 55 kilometers across the sea and is currently the longest ocean-crossing bridge in the world. It has been earmarked as a key project that will foster greater connectivity in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area, making cities within just one hour's commute of each other.

Once up and running, the bridge-tunnel system will cut road travel times from Zhuhai to Hong Kong to just 30 minutes. For Hong Kong and Macau, the travel times between the two cities’ downtown areas will be reduced to 110 minutes.
According to the released schedule, there will be 38 buses running each day between Hong Kong and Macau, with the service hours spanning from 8am to 9.30pm.

In terms of ticket prices, one-way tickets for buses traveling between Hong Kong's Kwun Tong APM Mall to Macau during day-time on regular days will be priced at HKD170, whereas tickets during night-time and holidays will increase to HKD190. The tickets will be available at the underground ticket office at Hong Kong’s AMP Mall and at a number of appointed travel agencies. Online ticket purchasing will also be launched at a later date.
In Zhuhai, shuttle buses that run from the city’s bridge port to Hong Kong and Macau will operate 24 hours a day, with buses departing at intervals of three to five minutes during the day and 15 to 30 minutes at night. Tickets for the shuttle buses are priced at HKD80.
