That's PRD takes a look at the best live performances happening this weekend in Guangzhou:
Fri, Sept 7: Queen’s Garden @ T:union
Don’t miss the opportunity to catch three of Guangzhou’s rising young band’s, Queen’s Garden, Echo Park and Whale Waves this weekend at T:union. Local label Black Deer Project bring these three very different bands to the stage this Friday for what will be a great evening of music from three practically unknown prospects. With members of more established bands, Mary Jane and Space Station, making up Whale Waves, and Nouvelle singer and guitarist Baozi throwing his hat in with Echo Park, fans should expect some cracking tunes.
Fri Sept 7, 8pm; RMB50 presale, RMB70 at the door. T:union. Tickets.
Sat, Sept 8: Zoogazer @ 191 Space
Zoogazer have proven themselves to be one of the most exciting young bands on the Chinese indie music scene after their self-titled debut release earlier this year. Finally out on tour in support of the album, Zoogazer’s upbeat mix of shoegaze and indie pop matches up well with their companions on this tour, Xiamen noise rockers Rejian Bei Shashou. Also joining on the night are local noise rock outfit Nouvelle.
Sat Sept 8, 7.30pm; RMB80 presale, RMB100 at the door. 191 Space. Tickets.
Sat, Sept 8: Running Blue @ T:union
Running Blue’s self-titled eight-track album, released in March of this year, brought together much of what the band has released over the past two years. One of the most intoxicating sounds to come out of Shanghai in a while, Running Blue’s dreamy indietronica recalls psychedelic sounds of the likes of French electronica band Air. It should be interesting to see how their electronic sound works in the spacious confines of T:union.
Sat Sept 8, 8.30pm; RMB80 presale, RMB100 at the door. T:union. Tickets.
Sun, Sept 9: GuiGuiSuiSui @ 191 Space
Nasty Wizard Recordings, out of Beijing, make their way down to Guangdong this weekend to celebrate the release of their split EP by Lastboss and German producer Emerge. China-based, UK ambient producer Lastboss is joined by the fantastic genre-spanning, performance art duo GuiGuiSuiSui, who will present their new stage show, Shining Soundscapes. An early start for this one at 191 Space, with proceedings kicking off at 4pm and scheduled to finish at 5.30pm.
Sun Sept 9, 4pm. RMB50 presale, RMB70 at the door. 191 Space. Tickets.
Sun, Sept 9: The Garden @ T:union
Hailing from California, The Garden bring their distinct style of glam punk to Guangzhou this weekend, the second stop on a four-date tour around the country. With the release of their third album, Mirror Might Steal Your Children, on Epitaph Records in March of this year, The Garden channeled the slacker punk of New York band Parquet Courts, with a healthy dose of synthesizers thrown into the mix. The end result: Mirror Might Steal Your Children sounds altogether fluid and instinctive.
Sun Sept 9, 8.30pm. RMB120 presale, RMB150 at the door. T: Union. Tickets.
