That's PRD takes a look at the best live performances happening this weekend in Guangzhou:
Fri, Aug 31: Bohan Phoenix @ Mao Livehouse
Bohan Phoenix has quickly risen to become one of the most recognizable names in Chinese hip hop today. After collaborations with the likes of Ryan Hemsworth, and Howie Lee and Higher Brothers on his 2017 EP Jala, Phoenix has become a name to watch out for in Chinese music. He will be joined on Friday night by gifted beatmaker LilAkin, who has also made waves for his work with Bohan Phoenix, Visudy, ZHI16 and many more.
Fri Aug 31, 9pm; RMB100 at the door, RMB600 VIP. Mao Livehouse. See event listing. Tickets.
Sat, Sept 1: Hind Brain @ SD Livehouse
It is not often that you find a band in China who proclaim to make psychedelic grunge music. Beijing band Hind Brain, however, are boldly going where few others dare. After the release of their debut full length album, The Flesh and The Spirit, Hind Brain are heading out to undertake a national tour, taking in the sights and sounds of Guangzhou’s own SD Livehouse on their way. Make sure to catch this hard rocking band this Saturday.
Sat Sept 1, 8.30pm. RMB70 presale, RMB90 at the door. SD Livehouse. See event listing. Tickets.
Sun, Sept 2: Cursed Eyes @ 191 Space
Ever wondered why Guangzhou has been called the capital of heavy metal music in China? Well, after a summer in which we saw a whole host of metal mini-festivals, it is clear that the folks in our fair city really enjoy a good head banging session. Cursed Eyes are joined by M7 from Macau and the humorously named Ask Your Mum, amongst others, for what promises to be a rollicking evening at 191 Space this Sunday night.
Sun Sept 2, 6pm. RMB50 presale, RMB70 at the door. 191 Space. See event listing. Tickets.
