Wed, Aug 22: Yi-gather Meetup
Yi-Gather Meetup is a monthly gathering where people give short presentations on the personal narratives behind the things they do: careers, creative projects, academics, hobbies and the like. The event offers guests the opportunity to learn something new, make friends and network, all while enjoying Yi-Gather’s inspiring space in Ximenkou. Talks are presented in English and open to everyone.

Aug 22-31: The Art of Pizza-Making

Two-time world acrobatic pizza champion Chef Pasqualino Barbasso will showcase his pizza tossing skills at Langham Place, Guangzhou this week. Watch as he lobs discs of dough with elegance and grace, and without ever ripping the uncooked crust. In addition to performances from the ‘pizza pappi,’ this 10-night culinary event will also feature set menus accompanied by carefully selected Italian wines at Alfresco, and a buffet dinner at The Open Kitchen.

Consisting of two award-wining talents – Ni Fan of China and Germany’s Lukas Böhm, this young duo is the first percussion ensemble in the world of chamber music. Artistically supervised by renowned Chinese percussionist Li Biao, DoubleBeats is staging a performance at Guangzhou Opera House this week alongside Li’s percussion band.

Guiding you on an awe-inspiring tour through prehistoric Australia, Dinosaur Zoo Live is the opportune occasion to observe, meet and interact with an eye-popping collection of amazingly lifelike dinosaurs and other creatures. Produced by Australian theater troupe Erth, the show is brought to life by a team of skilled performers and puppeteers, and designed with the help of professional paleontologists. Japan’s instrumental band H Zettrio – keyboards, drums and an acoustic bass – is gifted at creating light-hearted music in a humorous fashion. The trio colors their noses before each show to give themselves a clownish quality, livening up their comical live performances, which, on most occasions, see both grown-ups and children clap along, laugh or dance.

We are living in an age that values speed, opulence and success. Life in Guangzhou, one of the biggest cities in China, is emblematic of that. We want it all and we want it now. But at what cost? Sun, Aug 26: Geneva Brass Quintet
Five Swiss virtuoso chamber musicians, with their uncompromising aptitude for brass instruments, came together to form the Geneva Brass Quintet after graduating from the Geneva Conservatory. With a repertoire that is eclectic in style and period, the quintet have displayed their passion to audiences at various festivals and concert halls around the world. This week, liven up with GBQ’s brisk music as they commence another tour through the Middle Kingdom.
