Fri, Aug 17: Backspace @ 191 Space
Following the release of their debut full length album, Human Nature Architecture, on famed rock label Maybe Mars this year, Backspace have been out taking in the sights and sounds of wider China. The Beijing-based band specialize in a complex melding of psychedelic rock, krautrock and spirited, rambling Americana. Catch up with the rambunctious foursome this Friday at 191 Space and you might just be fortunate enough to hear some of their more recent, unreleased compositions.

Fri, Aug 17: Té @ SD Livehouse
Japanese post rock band Té have garnered a stellar reputation for their awesome live show since their founding in 2004. Bringing the same soaring sense of weightlessness so perfectly captured by post rock, mixed with some harder and heavier guitar sounds, Té have formed their own unique sound. Look out for another appearance by local math rock band Nein or Gas Muss, who’ve been extremely active on the scene of late.

Sat, Aug 18: Liquid Oxygen Can @ SD Livehouse
Having originally formed all the way back in 2001 as a nu metal band, Liquid Oxygen Can have slowly evolved into one of China’s favorite and longest running metal bands. Coming out of the cold North, from Liaoning province, the band’s thrilling metal style incorporates elements of funk and hip hop, feeding warmth into each venue that they perform in. Fans of Enter Shikari will love this band’s style.

Sun, Aug 19: International Finger-Style Guitar Festival @ T:union
With a group of international artists coming from such diverse places as Taiwan, Japan, Hungary and Chile, this touring group of guitarists is sure to throw up a few surprises for fans of the finger-style format. For instance, Taiwan’s Huang Jiawei’s combination of Western playing techniques and Chinese music, or Andres Godoy’s amazing one-armed technique are sure to blow audiences away.
