That's PRD takes a look at the best live performances happening this weekend in Guangzhou:
Thu, Aug 9: Click #15 and Power Milk @ T:union
Local funk act Power Milk are unique among Guangzhou bands in that their music takes definite inspiration from jazz and low-tempo pop. They have been actively playing around Guangdong of late and we’re confident we will be hearing more from them in the near future. Headlining act Click #15, on the other hand, deliver a totally different sound that mixes together funk and hip hop, and wouldn't have been out of place at the height of disco. Catch both acts this Thursday at T:union’s ‘Lust Calling’ concert.
Aug 9, 8.30pm; RMB65 student presale, RMB75 presale, RMB130 double presale, RMB100 at the door. T:union. See event listing. Tickets.
Fri, Aug 10: Stefan Karlsson Trio @ Zhile Art Space
Having recently moved to a larger venue in the Kecun area, Zhile Art Space are kicking off in style by hosting renowned Swedish jazz pianist Stefan Karlsson. US-based Karlsson has showed off his musical talent all over the world, and now performs alongside Grammy-winning musician Eddie Gomez as part of the bassist's eponymous trio.

Sat, Aug 11: HooDoo @ Floating Island Club
Taking up residence once more in Floating Island Club, set 47 floors above Yuexiu District, HooDoo regulars Tribes and Rampton are this time joined by live acts Biting Eye, Purple Key and Senonix. These three DJs are some of the most active techno proponents in the region, making the free-entry event a must-attend for Guangzhou techno fans.
Aug, 11, 8pm; free entry. Floating Island Club. See event listing.
Sat, Aug 11: Tamaryn @ 191 Space
With 191 Space now reopened after a major renovation, promotor Luuv Label brings New Zealander Tamaryn to Guangzhou for an evening of introverted and emotional shoegaze dream pop. While that may seem like a mouthful, her music exudes an urbanity that probably owes more to her life in New York than her roots in New Zealand. See for yourself whether her conceptually fantastic sound, performed live, can outperform her records.
Aug 11, 7.30pm. RMB120 presale, RMB150 at the door. 191 Space. See event listing. Tickets.
